Ramadan fasting and its positive effect on the heart

Ramadan fasting and its positive effect on the heart
A study was conducted to clarify the relationship between fasting during the month of Ramadan and the prevention of heart disease, and it was published in the Nutrition Journal.
The study shows that fasting has many benefits for the human body, especially heart disease. This study was conducted on a group of patients suffering from at least one cardiovascular disease, and a comparison was made between studying these diseases before and after Ramadan, in order to reach the effect of fasting on these patients.
The study included both sexes, as it included 38 men and 44 women, and their ages ranged between 29 and 70 years, and each of them had a previous history of cardiovascular disease. Pregnant and lactating women were excluded, and the study did not include those under the age of 18, and those who fasted for a period of less than 10 days.
The fasting period at the time the study was conducted was 14 hours and 42 minutes on the first day of Ramadan, which was also the first day of the study, while the fasting period on the last days of the month reached 13 hours and 35 minutes.
This study showed the following:
1. A significant improvement in cases of coronary artery disease,
2. A significant improvement in heart disease risk factors, such as weight and body mass,
3. The researchers noted a decrease in triglycerides and cholesterol,
4. In addition to an improvement in blood pressure readings after Ramadan compared to readings taken before Ramadan,
5. The study concluded that fasting during Ramadan is one of the best solutions to improve the condition of heart and blood vessel patients.
The researchers summarized the results by saying that fasting leads to 3 important benefits, which are:
1- While the body consumes energy during the fasting period, among these sources are fats attached to the walls of blood vessels, which leads to their melting as water melts ice, thus increasing blood flow through these vessels and increasing the percentage of oxygen and nutrients reaching the cells through the blood, thus increasing the vitality and function of the cells, so we see that the person who maintains fasting is less likely to suffer from atherosclerosis and the signs of aging are delayed.
2- Fasting leads to the decomposition of damaged cells and their replacement with new and active cells in the body, which increases the work and strength of the various functions of the body, so a person feels after the end of the month of fasting that his body is pure, his energy increases and his soul is clear.
3- The heart usually pumps blood to the various organs of the body, and the digestive system benefits from 10% of this amount, but during fasting the digestive system rests and the heart stops pumping this amount, which helps heart and angina patients who fast to improve their health.
